Barn Find Flip School
Lesson summary: Make respectful offers that sellers are more likely to accept.
Goal
Teach members how to negotiate with private sellers without insulting the car or the owner.
How Sellers Think
Many barn find sellers have emotional connections to the car. They may remember it as it was, not as it sits. They often want the car to go to someone who appreciates it.
What Not to Say
- This thing is junk.
- I will take it off your hands.
- It is only worth parts.
- I am just going to flip it.
A Better Approach
Ask about the story, acknowledge what is worth saving, explain the real costs, and make a simple offer that includes quick pickup.
Offer Script
“I like the car and I can see why you held onto it. Because it has been sitting, I need to budget for transport, fuel system, brakes, tires, and unknowns. I could do $____ and pick it up this week.”
Member Action
Use the negotiation scripts from the downloads page before contacting sellers.
